Hey fam! It’s crazy that we are already halfway through the summer! God has been doing some really incredible things these past few weeks and I’m really excited to see all that He will continue to do and the lives He will touch here at the campground in the coming weeks. With that being said, I thought it would be an excellent time to take a few moments to stop and reflect on our time here this summer – to look at where we have been and to plan for where we are going in the coming weeks.
Below are a few reflection questions I have put together that I hope will help guide your thoughts as you reflect on your time here.
1.) Why are you here this summer? Obviously we all had different reasons for choosing to be SummerShiners, but why are we really here? Ultimately, the reason that we are all here should be to make a lasting impact in the lives of the campers we interact with and to shine the light of Christ across this campground. It doesn’t take a ton of effort to make a difference in someone’s life, but it does take us having the right priorities and dedication. Has the summer heat and the craziness of the holiday weekend made you lose your focus and excitement for serving the Lord? What is one thing that you can do to make sure that you make the most out of your final few weeks here this summer?
2.) What has been some of your biggest successes this summer? What have been your biggest areas of failure?
3.) Considering the above questions, if you could go back and do something differently, what would you change? What could you do differently in the coming weeks to avoid those mistakes or to build on your areas of success?
4.) How has your relationship with Christ been these past few weeks? Would you say that your faith has grown stronger or remained the same? Why is that? What needs to change in order for you to develop a closer, more vibrant relationship with Christ?
5.) At the beginning of the summer you had to write down 3 goals that you wanted to achieve this summer. How are you doing with completing your goals? What steps do you need to take in the coming weeks to make sure you achieve your goals?
Are there any new goals that you need to consider making for yourself? Maybe you feel God calling you to work with children, or to be a teacher or start a ministry. What are some things that you can do in these next few weeks to better equip yourself for what you feel God is leading you to do in the future?
All we’ve got is this summer to make a difference in these campers lives, so let’s have fun, but also let’s not forget why we are here – to shine the light of Christ! I love you guys and am so thankful that God has placed us all together this summer! Keep up the excellent work and remember that all we are doing here this summer is for the Lord!

Never consider whether you are of use; but ever consider that you are not your own but His… The aim of the missionary [or SummerShiner,] is to do God’s will, not to be useful, not to win the heathen; he IS useful and he DOES win the heathen, but that is not his aim. His aim is to do the will of his Lord.
